This week’s Leader Reader featured book is The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy.
I love books. I do lots of reading and believe that different books serve different purposes, some expose you to new ideas, some expand your thinking, some motivate and others kick you in the pants. This is what The Compound Effect does.
It’s down to earth. It’s practical. It’s a time to get your butt in gear type of book.
If all we needed was more information, everyone with an internet connection would live in a mansion, have abs of steel, and be blissfully happy. New or more information is not what you need – a new plan of action is.
The premise is summed up well in a formula Darren gives Small, Smart Choices + Consistency + Time = Radical Difference.
This book is packed with great stuff but here are two quick concepts it advocates; Scorecard, and Why Power.
The Scorecard – It be successful it’s important that you track your actions. And the scorecard is the way Darren explains how to track your actions. This is also an example of how he deals out specific challenges. Here he challenges you to track one habit for one week.
Why Power – The other half of the book Darren gives you strategies on how to stay inspired and motivated to go after your goals. Why power is one of those. You need to answer the question “What will your goal bring you?” What are the benefits? Your outcomes are all a result of your moment to moment choices. A strong why will help ensure you make the right ones.
A very important chapter is Habits.
95% of everything we feel, think. do, and achieve is a result of learned habits.
The keyword there is learned. Your habits are learned. This book basically is a blueprint on how to create habits that will make you successful.
I cannot recommend this book. Right now we are less than one month from the time of year most people try to reach new goals, New Years. And all of them will fail…if they do not create new habits in their life.
To make sure your New Years starts off on the right foot start developing your habits now. You can take the first step today by getting:
